Culture Christianity

Maybe we’re doing it wrong. We’ve grown very comfortable in this country and have become disillusioned with what is good and what is evil. In the movie “Power of the Air” the actor mentioned that if we saw the Lord’s name taken in vain in the church we would be in an uproar but when we hear it everyday in our day to day, in our programming, in our entertainment, we don’t worry about serious such a heinous, sinful act that is. We see the zodiacs, planet alignments, energy from the universe and believe that the universe can give us something but forget that everything was created by Him and for Him (Colossians 1:16). We walk a tightrope and around eggshells between what is legalistic and what is better interpretations but don’t seek the clarity of the Word who was made flesh and dwelt among us. Our eyes have been veiled to accept the demonic for good and entertainment has breached our conscience with imagery, fantasies, and romanticized ideas that draw us away from truth and light. Maybe our grandparents weren’t being sticks in the mud when they mentioned the “filth” in movies and televisions which included sex, coarse language, spells, incantations, horror, and fear but instead had a firmer grasp on what evil forces can do to the soul and warp the mind. Can we say that we are above it and can tell the difference? Can we say that there are no negative influences especially if I just talk with my kids and they’ll understand because of the environment I bring them up in? Perhaps we give the devil and his band of thugs too much credit, after all it’s not like they’ve been here longer than we have and can know every detail about us because they study us for ways to fail. It’s not like when we “get right” and stumble later that they don’t come back and find their old house in order and ready to move in with several of their friends, right? (Matt 12:44-45) Maybe it’s because we are free of persecution in this country. We’re not really challenged, though how could we be? We’ve Americanized the gospel to have our cake and eat it too where we can have total forgiveness as long as we ask and live like Christ doesn’t exist the rest of the time. We have the songs, we have the massive churches, we have the most entertaining and passionate people who contort themselves and their faces to show the emotion behind every pained lyric and sermon whose message is “God is here to serve ME.” Songs that used to hold reverence to the Almighty in His holiness, power, might, judgement, and wrath have been traded for what we feel, how we feel, and what makes us feel any kind of way and we sing to ourselves with just a dash of deity sprinkled in so we can sing it together in a building created for us…I mean Him. We have romanticized God’s will and our calling. How dare we start being a good follower and believer, we’ve gotta take these five quizzes to know where and how to serve who and for what purpose and I’m gonna be still until I know how the Lord wants me to move. We’ve certainly lost our fear of the Lord, but what’s to fear, right? Forget that verse that says in Matthew, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, drive out demons in your name, and do many miracles in your name?’ Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you lawbreakers!’” But we’re definitely fine, right? Because He’s all love, He wouldn’t do that even though it’s in His word and He actually said it. Love is Love, after all. We get a whole month dedicated to that concept, priDE MONth. It’s obviously not a bad thing if it’s love. All satire aside, you’ll read this, eyes probably glazed over from scrolling and get a chuckle, or possibly very angry, either way, at least you can say you saw something to think on. Unless maybe we think about things the wrong way in how we should represent Christ and not the other way around.
